How long does it take to build an eCommerce website?

Other than cost, timing is probably the most frequently asked question when building a website. Some of our clients have never been involved in building a site, and have no idea what goes into the process or how long it takes. Expectations are all over the map, but generally the consensus is "I'd like it done as soon possible."

A typical eCommerce website will take months to build at a minimum from start to launch. This includes discovery, design, development, and modifications. It could take much longer if you wait until the end to start writing content.

We have created Melon Punch, a refined eCommerce offering that is affordable, powerful, flexible, and very quick to deploy.  "Melon Punch" can be up and running in as little as a few weeks and can support multiple storefronts per instance.  "Punch" operates on the gold standard of eCommerce platforms, Magento Open Source. Magento is designed to be extensible and "Punch" leverages this by adding select extensions to give merchants full control over content, navigation, and search. We can provide a near-immediate outlet for new sales opportunities.

Additionally, "Punch" is capable of supporting multiple storefronts, allowing several franchises to be bundled under a single infrastructure – greatly decreasing costs and easing onboarding of new franchise operations.

  • Affordable – Melon Punch has been developed to be budget conscious and one instance may easily support multiple franchise stores, allowing costs to be split across numerous partners.

  • Fast Time to Market – Melon Punch is fast to deploy, and franchise stores can be up and running in just a few weeks.

  • Powerful and Proven – Melon Punch is founded on Magento 2 Open Source, a platform consistently ranking high on Forrester New Wave and Gartner Magic Quadrant reports.  With over a decade of high performance and Adobe behind it Magento is a choice that’s easy to start with and scales to be kept.

  • Flexible – Melon Punch is designed with the individual merchant in mind, providing features to allow merchants the ability to perform visual site-wide content editing from the individual page as well as custom tailoring of navigation and search features.  Punch supports simple and complex products with control over the complete customer, product, and order cycles from a single administrative interface.

Magento and Melon Punch have provided a viable window of opportunity for taking advantage of the current times and the clock is running out.  Keys to success when implementing this transition is understanding business needs, knowing why each feature needs to exist on the site, partnering with a knowledgeable implementation team, and finally – don’t keep putting it off.
